"Infrared thermography is the process of acquisition and analysis of thermal information from non-contact thermal imaging devices" - Infrared Training Centre
Infrared thermographic cameras produce images of invisible infrared or "heat" radiation and provide precise non-contact temperature measurement capabilities. Thermal or infrared energy is light which is not visible because of it's wavelength is too long to be detected by the human eye: it's part of the electromagnetic spectrum we perceive as "heat". Thermography is the use of an infrared imaging and measurement device to "see" and "measure thermal energy emitted from an object. Unlike visible light, in the infrared world, everything with a temperature above absolute zero (minus 459 degrees F) emits heat. Even cold objects, like ice cubes emit infrared, the higher the objects temperature, the more infrared energy is emitted.
Infrared testing is essentially a non-invasive, non-destructive inspection process that uses thermograhy cameras. These devices gather temperature signatures that lie far beyond the range of visible light. ProSCAN analyzes this data to help detect problems before they become serious and become costly issues. If you are a property owner, property manager, real estate investor or facilities manager, infrared testing adds an invaluable dimension to your building diagnostics and preventative maintenance program. ProSCAN can evaluate and protect property and equipment investments by finding the problems before it is too late.
