What is Infrared Thermography?

"Infrared thermography is the process of acquisition and analysis of thermal information from non-contact thermal imaging devices" - Infrared Training Centre

Infrared thermographic cameras produce images of invisible infrared or "heat" radiation and provide precise non-contact temperature measurement capabilities.  Thermal or infrared energy is light which is not visible because of it's wavelength is too long to be detected by the human eye: it's part of the electromagnetic spectrum we perceive as "heat". Thermography is the use of an infrared imaging and measurement device to "see" and "measure thermal energy emitted from an object.  Unlike visible light, in the infrared world, everything with a temperature above absolute zero (minus 459 degrees F) emits heat.  Even cold objects, like ice cubes emit infrared, the higher the objects temperature, the more infrared energy is emitted.

How Thermographic Surveys can help you?

Infrared testing is essentially a non-invasive, non-destructive inspection process that uses thermograhy cameras.  These devices gather temperature signatures that lie far beyond the range of visible light.  ProSCAN analyzes this data to help detect problems before they become serious and become costly issues.  If you are a property owner, property manager, real estate investor or facilities manager, infrared testing adds an invaluable dimension to your building diagnostics and preventative maintenance program.  ProSCAN can evaluate and protect property and equipment investments by finding the problems before it is too late.

Benefits of Infrared Inspections:

  • help with predictive maintenance of electrical, mechanical and structural systems
  • detect problems, prevent downtime and increase work safety
  • easiest and quickest method to detect energy waste, moisture and electrical issues
  • non-invasive & non-destructive
  • cost savings
  • scan and detect problems quickly without disruption of services

Residential Surveys

  • A ProSCAN Residential Survey allows you to get more detailed information about the home you own or home you are about to buy
  • Infrared technology can reveal many hidden issues in a home that would not be visible to the naked eye
  • A survey can detect hidden water problems, missing or failing insulation, areas of energy loss, builder's deficiencies and much more
  • Our reports reveal important information you need to make educated decisions about the condition of your home and its systems
  • Infrared thermal imaging scans can easily verify insulation inside walls and ceilings
  • The camera will reveal where there is missing, settled, or wet and damaged insulation
  • As an added benefit, when we scan your home, we can also identify air infiltration and exfiltration

Infrared technology can identify and document the following:

  • energy loss and efficiency
  • unknown plumbing leaks
  • hidden roof leaks
  • electrical faults
  • overloaded and undersized circuits
  • missing, damaged and/or wet insulation
  • water and moisture intrusion which could lead to mold
  • rodent infestation
  • air conditioner compressor leaks
  • structural defects
  • radiant in-floor heating defects
  • broken seals in double pane windows
  • dangerous fluid leaks
  • overheated equipment
